This starts during the enrollment process when our new student athletes meet their learning coach for the first time. In those initial orientation meetings, there are multiple discussions about learning styles and organization all developed to allow our students to become self directed learners within the school. We believe that it’s a continual process of relationship building and support. We also offer a Online Learning and Digital Citizenship elective for those who are interested.

No, we recognize that our student needs vary depending on training schedules and intensity over the course of the year. Therefore, classes are accessible 365 days a year. For our athletes and their families this allows the ultimate level of flexibility to successfully integrate their training calendar into their academic calendar.For example, a winter athlete may train from November through March, and then begins his/her school year April 1 and finishes up with courses in December as they begin training on a more intense schedule. However, we may have another athlete who works throughout their training, and designs a set of personal goals that gives them up to 12 months to finish their classes versus a compressed 7 or 8 month schedule.

Teachers and learning coaches are available for support within our messaging app with rapid response times. Additionally, one of our core pedagogical beliefs is that peer learning is a fundamental step towards mastery.  Within our messaging app students are placed in class groups where they can ask a question to their teacher or other members of the class – these groups are facilitated by teachers who encourage peer discussion and peer learning when a question arises.  Teachers can also instantly ‘go-live’ for discussions and demonstrations. These messaging groups are quick and easy to navigate whilst encouraging socialization and group work.  Students can also ‘drop-in’ to any of the regularly scheduled Study Hall or support video sessions in order to ask a quick question. Alternatively, at the click of a button students can schedule to meet with their teacher or learning coach 1:1 for help and support.  If teachers or learning coaches see that a student could use support in a particular area, they themselves will set up a meeting with the student in order to go through specific concepts.
